For operation, the VR TierOne device requires access to electricity (115-230V, 50-60Hz) and optional Internet access (Ethernet RJ-45 connection).

How many languages are the operating instructions available in?

The device comes with an instruction manual in six languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Russian and Polish.

What is virtual reality?

Virtual reality is a three-dimensional world created by computer technology. It resembles the real world or gives an image of a different fictional environment. In other words, it is a generated environment in which we can completely immerse ourselves.

How can we „enter" the world of virtual reality?

To do this we have to use a special VR helmet, which displays the image in 3D. After putting the helmet on we do not see any elements of the outside world.

What about sound in virtual reality?

VR helmets are equipped with headphones – their task is to emit sounds from applications, which make us even more subject to the phenomenon of total immersion.

About ten days. It includes a zero session to familiarize the patient with virtual reality and eight full therapeutic sessions of about 15 minutes each.

What is a stroke?

A stroke is a narrowing of a vessel that brings blood to a certain area of the brain. One should not underestimate any symptoms, even the slightest signs of illness, as this can lead to serious unpleasant consequences. It is important to be able to distinguish between symptoms and to give first aid as soon as possible, every second counts here.

How to recognize a stroke?

The most common symptoms of a stroke are:

  • a depressed corner of the mouth,
  • speech disorder,
  • inability to say sentences,
  • paralysis of one side of the body,
  • muscle weakness on one side of the body.

How to run a stroke test?

Say to the sick person „smile” – one corner of the mouth falls down.
Say „repeat the sentence” (e. g. nice weather today) – they are not able to.
Say „lift both hands forward” – one falls down.
Say „show me your tongue” – the tongue tilts or is wrinkled on one side.

What do the consequences of a stroke depend on?

They depend on the cause of the stroke, the size of the thrombus, the extent of the cerebral ischemia area, the location of brain damage. Effects also depend on the time passed from the stroke to treatment. Ideally, the patient should be admitted to hospital within one hour of the first symptoms.

What is an ischemic stroke?

An ischemic stroke is a weakening of the brain due to a clogged arterial vessel. It can be caused by atherosclerotic changes, atrial fibrillation, decreased arterial pressure.

What is a hemorrhagic stroke?

It’s also called a cerebral hemorrhage. It’s caused by a rupture in a vessel that supplies the brain with blood. Hemorrhagic stroke accounts for 10-15% of all strokes.

What are the causes of a hemorrhagic stroke?

The vessel that breaks must have been previously damaged as a result of untreated or ineffective treatment of hypertension or diabetes. Blood clotting disorders are a rare cause.

How to treat a stroke?

First the neurological interview, preferably in an ambulance. The next stage is computed tomography, which allows to estimate the size of the losses. International guidelines recommend thrombolysis as soon as possible (the dissolution of a thrombotic thrombosis by administration of thrombolytic drugs, e. g. tPA or streptokinase). This may be done within 4-5 hours of the occurrence of the ischaemic stroke at the latest.

Is the patient undergoing other tests?

After admission to hospital, each patient should undergo the following tests:
morphology, coagulogram, electrolytes, glycemia, creatinine and aminotransferases and oxygen saturation. An EKG is also performed.

Is psychological support provided to the patient?

More and more often, in stroke wards, mental health screening is performed in order to diagnose depression. The data shows that every third patient has it. Depression can develop immediately after a stroke or many months later.
